Rep. Stovall appointed to House Study Committee on School Security

ATLANTA –State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Forest Park) was recently appointed by Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to serve on the House Study Committee on School Security.

“There is an urgency for policy makers to ensure that our schools are safe havens for students, employees and others who visit,” said Rep. Stovall. “I am honored to serve on this study committee alongside my colleagues, and I look forward to hearing testimonies firsthand from experts, school personnel, students, parents, policy makers and the general public on this important topic. As a guest speaker at Forest Park High School during the National School Walkout in March, I heard strong outcries for a solution on school safety from a diverse population of 1,500 students. In addition, as the Vice Chair of the House Education Subcommittee on Academic Support, I understand the importance security plays in the academic performance of our state’s children.”

This study committee was established by House Resolution 1414 and will examine public policy related to the security of school campuses in Georgia. Click here to read HR 1414
