House Resolution 279 will designate March 21st each year as Single Parent Day in Georgia. In 1984 Congress passed legislation and President Reagan issued a Proclamation for March 21. Parents must invest immeasurable amounts of time, energy, and devotion when raising their children in order to provide them with the love, support, and guidance required to become responsible, productive, and successful adults.
The resolution is now in the Senate waiting a committee hearing. You can contact your State Senator to voice your support of HR 279. If it is passed by the Senate, then it goes to Governor Deal’s desk for signing and becoming law. There are many organizations which have worked on this project: Real Parents, National Leadership Group, Family Connections across Georgia, South Georgia Nonprofit Collaboration, Total Teen Icon, and Connect Teen Connections. Without their tireless work, we would not have gotten this far.
